After the pros and the volunteers dug out the live babies, they put them in a basin of sand and the let the crowd see them. The babies want to run. A total of 86 live babies made it to water from this nest. Night before last, 43 got out on their own. Today another 43 were helped to get to the water alive. Many of this last group that got help would have died in the nest without assistance. This is one way people are trying to bring this endangered species back from the brink. An average Hawksbill nest contains about 175 egs.
